NYC 2023 Summer Intensive
General Workshop Information
The School for Improvisational Music (SIM) functions as the instructional face of CIM. Since 2001, SIM has held over 25 intensive workshop sessions for more than 800 aspiring students of creative music from all over the globe. SIM conducts these workshops in New York City, and by special arrangement in other locations throughout the world. The sessions include 2 masterclasses per day, ensemble coaching, student and faculty performances and private lessons. The SIM faculty comprised of a cross-section of the most creative improvisers from the jazz and contemporary music fields.
Content: The SIM experience encompasses ample playing opportunities and discussion of improvisational concepts. SIM is less about teaching through the lens of style and more about the overarching concepts of improvisation, touching on multiple disciplines. That said, students are offered two private lessons per week with our faculty, allowing personal instruction on any musical topic.
